Les Animaux - Animals - French Vocabulary Activity + Word Wall: This vocabulary activity is perfect for the start of an Animals Unit in French! It consists of 20 vocabulary words related to les animaux (10 animals and 10 animal body parts), where students will practice their dictionary skills by not only finding the English translation, but also discovering if the word is masculine or feminine. An answer key is included.

The Mur de mots (Word Wall) includes all of the vocabulary words that are in the vocabulary activity, along with an image beside each word. This can be displayed in your French classroom as a visual reference for students throughout your Animals unit. Just print, cut, laminate, and enjoy!

Animaux - Animals - Listening Comprehension: Assess students' knowledge of vocabulary related to les animaux with this listening comprehension activity! During the listening activity, students are to number the images based off the vocabulary words or clues said by the teacher. There are two versions of the teacher script for differentiated instruction: one where the teacher says the vocabulary words and another where the teacher says the clues. This is a perfect summative assessment for the Listening Strand of the FSL curriculum that requires students to demonstrate knowledge of animal vocabulary.

Qui suis-je? Devinez les animaux - Guess The Animal Reading Activity/PPT: This Qui suis-je? Devinez les animaux PowerPoint presentation is a fun reading comprehension game for students to work with their peers to practice animal-related vocabulary, while improving their reading skills, logical reasoning, and inference skills in French! In groups, students are to read the clues provided and discuss which animal is being described. This is an excellent resource to encourage oral communication in French beginners, while also building upon their reading skills by identifying important points and highlighting key words.

Animaux - Animals - Reading Comprehension: Assess students' knowledge of vocabulary related to les animaux with this reading comprehension activity! Students are to read the clues provided in each question and choose the correct animal from the word box. This is an excellent summative assessment for the Reading Strand of the FSL curriculum that requires students to use their reading comprehension skills to identify important points and highlight key words.

Animal Perdu Affiche - Lost Pet Poster - French Writing Task: This Lost Pet Poster assignment is an excellent summative writing assessment to finish an Animals Unit in French! Students are to use all of the vocabulary learned to write a paragraph describing the physical features of their pet. They can use their creativity to invent an animal, describing the different body parts their pet has. Students will use this template to make their poster, including the name, age, description, and drawing of the animal, as well as include a reward if found and contact information. This authentic writing task can then be presented to the class, so that you can also get a mark for the speaking strand of the FSL curriculum.

Les Animaux - French Songs / Chansons - Fill in the Blanks Listening Activities: These fill-in-the-blank listening activities to French songs about les animaux (animals) are a great way to practice and assess French listening comprehension skills, while also building vocabulary! Included in this product are 2 activities to the following fun French animal songs:

  • Café Crocodile (Matt Maxwell)
  • Sauvons les animaux (Gregg LeRock)

Students will listen to the song and use the word box to fill in the missing lyrics. I like to play the song 3 times, pausing the music after every blank to give students time to find the missing word. There are 15 fill-in-the-blanks related to Les animaux (animal) vocabulary. Included are two versions of each activity (one with a link to the song on YouTube for easy access and one without), as well as an answer key for efficient grading!
