Mot de l'année / Word of the Year - New Year's Bilingual Google Slides™ Activity

Celebrate the New Year in your French or English classroom by having your students set intentions and goals for themselves using this Nos mots de l'année or Our Words of the Year Google Slides™ activity!

This activity is great resource to complete in your class at the beginning of January, as students can take the time to reflect upon the previous year and make resolutions for improvement. The slides teach students about the value of choosing a "Word of the Year" and provide an opportunity for the class to brainstorm words together. Each student is then assigned one slide with their name on it and they are tasked to choose/write their specific word of the year, then decorate the slide with images to represent their chosen word. In my classroom, I have the students share their word with the rest of the class and briefly explain the importance of how this word reflects their goals or intentions for the year ahead.

It is an excellent way to encourage participation and community building in the classroom, especially during online or remote learning.

This activity can be used both in January, at the start of a new year, or back to school in September, at the start of a new school year!
